About the practice

A different kind of dental visit.

Ottawa Dental Clinic was built on a simple idea: dentistry should feel calm, organized, and genuinely human. Patients should walk in knowing exactly what's planned, what it will cost, and why each step matters. That commitment to clarity, comfort, and clinical excellence has made us a trusted dental home for thousands of Ottawa-area families.

Our practice is led by an experienced team of licensed Ontario dentists and registered dental hygienists, supported by certified dental assistants and patient care coordinators. Every clinician on our team is in active good standing with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), the regulatory body responsible for protecting the public and licensing dentists across the province. We are also active members of the Ontario Dental Association (ODA) and the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), which keeps our care aligned with current evidence-based guidelines.

A different kind of dental visit

Patients tell us the difference is felt the moment they sit in the chair. We schedule realistically — never double-booked — so we have time to listen. We use intraoral cameras and chairside monitors so you can see what we see, not just be told about it. We talk through every option (including the option to wait or do nothing), explain the pros, cons, and costs of each path, and only proceed when you're comfortable. For nervous patients, we offer noise-cancelling headphones, weighted blankets, topical numbing gel before any needle, and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation when appropriate.

Modern technology, conservative philosophy

Our Ottawa dental office uses digital radiography that delivers up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays, intraoral cameras for high-resolution photos of every tooth, electric handpieces for quieter and more precise work, and rotary endodontics for faster, more comfortable root canal therapy. Despite the technology, our philosophy is conservative: we save tooth structure whenever possible, recommend the least invasive treatment that solves the problem, and never push procedures patients don't need. The goal is a healthy mouth for life — not a heavy treatment plan today.

Bilingual, family-friendly care

Ottawa is a bilingual city, and so is our practice. Several members of our team speak both English and French fluently, and we are happy to communicate with patients in either language. We see children as young as their first tooth, treat the entire family on the same day when possible, and reserve early-morning, lunchtime, and select evening appointments to fit working schedules. Federal public servants, parliamentary staff, students, retirees, newcomers to Canada, and patients applying for the Canadian Dental Care Plan all find a welcoming home here.

Why Ottawa families choose us

The long-term dental home Ottawa was missing.

Choosing a dentist is a long-term decision. The right practice will know your history, anticipate problems before they hurt, and treat you the same way for the next decade. Here's why Ottawa families choose us as their dental home.

01

Licensed, Insured & Regulated

Every dentist on our team is licensed by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), carries full professional liability insurance, and meets all Public Health Ontario infection-prevention and control standards (IPAC). Our sterilization protocols follow CDA, RCDSO, and Health Canada guidelines, and our autoclaves are spore-tested weekly with documented logs available for inspection.

02

Honest, Up-Front Pricing

Our fees are based on the current Ontario Dental Association (ODA) Suggested Fee Guide and reviewed transparently at the start of every treatment plan. Before any work begins, you receive a written estimate with procedure codes, costs, and the portion expected to be covered by your insurance or the Canadian Dental Care Plan. No surprises, no hidden fees, no pressure.

03

Direct Billing & CDCP-Friendly

We submit electronic claims directly to most major Canadian insurers, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life (formerly Great-West Life), Green Shield Canada, Desjardins, Industrial Alliance, Equitable Life, Blue Cross, and SSQ. We are a participating provider for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) administered by Sun Life and accept patients covered by the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP), Healthy Smiles Ontario, Ontario Works, and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) where eligible.

04

Same-Week Emergency Slots

Toothaches, cracked teeth, and lost crowns rarely happen at convenient times. We hold emergency slots on our schedule every weekday and respond to emergency calls quickly. In most cases, we can see you the same day or the next business day, get you out of pain, and stabilize the situation before planning longer-term treatment.

05

A Comfortable, Modern Office

Our Ottawa clinic is designed to feel more like a calm professional space than a clinical one — natural light, quiet treatment rooms, comfortable chairs, and the small touches (warm blankets, headphones, beverages) that make appointments easier. We are wheelchair accessible and offer free patient parking on site.

06

Five-Star Reputation

Our patients are our biggest source of new business. We're proud of the reputation we've built across Google reviews, RateMDs, Facebook, and word-of-mouth recommendations from neighbours, coworkers, and family doctors throughout Ottawa.

Common dental problems we solve

If any of these sound familiar — we treat them every day.

Most adults have at least one ongoing oral health concern. Here are the conditions our Ottawa dental team treats every day — and what to do if any of them sound familiar.

🦷 Cavities & Tooth Decay

Cavities are one of the most common chronic conditions in Canada. They form when oral bacteria break down sugars and produce acid that erodes enamel. Caught early, a cavity is a 20-minute composite filling. Left untreated, it can progress to the tooth's nerve and require a root canal or extraction. Regular checkups and bitewing X-rays catch cavities while they're still small and cheap to fix.

🩸 Gum Disease (Gingivitis & Periodontitis)

Gum disease starts as gingivitis — red, puffy, bleeding gums — and is fully reversible with a professional cleaning and improved home care. If untreated, it can advance to periodontitis, where the bone supporting your teeth begins to break down. Early signs include bleeding when brushing, persistent bad breath, gum recession, and longer-looking teeth. Periodontitis is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults and has well-documented links to heart disease, stroke, and complications in diabetes.

❄️ Tooth Sensitivity

Sharp pain when sipping hot coffee or biting into ice cream is one of the most common complaints we hear, especially during Ottawa's deep winter. Sensitivity can be caused by exposed roots from gum recession, worn enamel, cracked teeth, recent whitening, or microscopic cracks (craze lines) from grinding. We diagnose the cause and tailor treatment — desensitizing toothpaste, fluoride varnish, bonding, a night guard, or restoring the affected tooth.

😬 Bruxism (Grinding & Clenching)

Many people grind or clench their teeth at night without realizing it — until they wake with a headache, a sore jaw, or chipped front teeth. Chronic grinding flattens cusps, cracks fillings, and accelerates wear on every tooth. A custom night guard, made from a precise impression of your teeth, absorbs the force and protects your dentition for years.

👂 TMJ Disorder & Jaw Pain

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder causes jaw pain, clicking or popping when chewing, headaches, ear pain, and limited mouth opening. We screen for TMJ during every comprehensive exam and treat mild-to-moderate cases with occlusal splints, bite adjustments, and conservative therapy.

🪥 Missing Teeth

Missing teeth aren't just cosmetic — adjacent teeth shift, opposing teeth super-erupt, the jawbone in the empty area atrophies over time, and chewing efficiency drops. We offer dental implants, fixed bridges, and partial or complete dentures depending on your case and budget. Replacing missing teeth promptly preserves the health of the rest of your mouth.

💥 Cracked, Chipped & Broken Teeth

Whether from a hockey puck, a winter fall on icy stairs, biting into a popcorn kernel, or years of grinding, broken teeth need timely attention. Small chips can be repaired with composite bonding in a single visit. Larger fractures may require an onlay, a crown, or — if the crack reaches the nerve — root canal therapy.

☕ Tooth Discoloration

Teeth darken with age, coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, certain medications (such as tetracycline), and trauma. We offer professional in-office whitening, take-home tray systems, and combined approaches for stubborn cases. For deep intrinsic discoloration, porcelain veneers may be a better long-term solution.

📐 Crooked or Crowded Teeth

Crooked teeth aren't just an aesthetic concern — they're harder to clean and more prone to cavities and gum disease. Most adult misalignment cases can be corrected with Invisalign clear aligners over 6–18 months.

💨 Bad Breath (Halitosis)

Persistent bad breath is most often caused by oral bacteria on the tongue, gum disease, dry mouth, or poorly fitting dental work. We diagnose the source, treat the underlying cause, and recommend a home-care routine that keeps your breath fresh long-term.

💭 Dental Anxiety

Dental anxiety is real and common — and at our Ottawa clinic, we never treat it as something to be embarrassed about. We use slow, narrated appointments, topical numbing before any needle, noise-cancelling headphones, weighted blankets, and nitrous oxide or oral sedation when needed. Many of our most loyal patients are people who hadn't seen a dentist in years before walking through our doors.

How we're different

Our model vs. the rushed clinic model.

Two clinics can look the same from the curb. The difference shows up the moment you sit in the chair — in how the appointment is paced, what you're told, and what you're charged.

Our way of practising dentistry

  • Realistic scheduling — never double-booked
  • Intraoral cameras & chairside monitor — you see what we see
  • Every option discussed, including waiting or doing nothing
  • Written estimate with procedure codes before any work begins
  • Conservative philosophy — save tooth structure first
  • Direct billing to most major insurers and the CDCP
  • Same-week emergency slots reserved every weekday
  • Bilingual care in English & French
  • Topical numbing, headphones, weighted blankets, and nitrous on request

The rushed-clinic experience

  • Double-booking that turns 30 minutes into 12
  • "Just trust us" with no monitor, no photos, no explanation
  • Pressure to commit on the spot to large treatment plans
  • Surprise bills at checkout that weren't on the estimate
  • Aggressive treatment that drills first and asks later
  • Out-of-network — you front the cost and chase reimbursement
  • "Next available appointment" three weeks out for emergencies
  • One-language-only service in a bilingual city
  • Anxiety treated like inconvenience, not a real concern
Your first visit, step by step

How it works — calm, thorough, respectful of your time.

If it's been a while since your last dental visit, or you're switching from another Ottawa-area practice, here's exactly what to expect. We've designed our new-patient process to be calm, thorough, and respectful of your time.

01

Booking & Pre-Visit Paperwork

Book online, by phone, or by email. We'll send a digital new-patient form to your inbox so you can complete your medical and dental history at home. If you have insurance, we'll verify your coverage and submit a pre-determination for any planned major work so you know costs in advance.

02

Welcome & Comprehensive Exam

Plan to arrive 10 minutes early for your first visit. After a brief tour of the office and a chance to meet your dentist and hygienist, we begin with a comprehensive new-patient examination. This includes digital X-rays, a head-and-neck oral cancer screening, periodontal (gum) charting, intraoral photographs, a bite analysis, and a tooth-by-tooth review on the chairside monitor so you can see exactly what we see.

03

Discussion & Treatment Options

We sit down — fully clothed, not reclined in the chair — and walk through what we found, in plain language. You'll see your photos and X-rays, and we'll discuss every option, including the option to monitor and do nothing. Each option comes with honest pros, cons, expected longevity, and cost. You leave with a written treatment plan and a clear sense of priorities, not pressure.

04

Cleaning (Same Visit, When Possible)

If your gum health allows, we complete your hygiene cleaning at the same appointment. Patients with active gum disease may need a longer scaling-and-root-planing appointment scheduled separately.

05

Treatment Scheduling & Coordination

Our patient coordinators help you schedule any follow-up treatment around your work and family commitments. We submit insurance claims electronically so most reimbursements arrive within 1–3 business days. For CDCP patients, we handle pre-authorizations and direct billing through Sun Life.

06

Recall & Long-Term Care

Most patients are scheduled for recall (checkup and cleaning) every 6 months — adjusted to 3, 4, or 9 months based on your individual risk. We send appointment reminders by text and email and keep your records on file securely under PHIPA, Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act.

Ottawa dental care · local guide

What you should know about Ottawa dentistry.

Dentistry in Ottawa has a few unique local features — regulatory, climatic, and financial — that affect how care is delivered and paid for. Here's a practical guide to the most important ones.

🛡️

Ontario Dental Regulation (RCDSO)

Every dentist practising in Ottawa must be licensed by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO). The College sets standards for clinical practice, infection prevention and control, record-keeping, and continuing education. You can verify any Ontario dentist's status on the RCDSO public register at rcdso.org. Dental hygienists are separately regulated by the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).

📋

ODA Suggested Fee Guide

The Ontario Dental Association publishes a Suggested Fee Guide each year, and most Ottawa-area practices base their fees on it. The guide is a recommendation, not a legal requirement, so fees can vary somewhat between offices. Insurance plans typically reimburse at a percentage of the previous year's fee guide, which means there can be a small gap between what your dentist charges and what your insurance pays. We discuss any expected gap before treatment so there are no surprises at checkout.

🇨🇦

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is a federal program designed to help eligible Canadians without private dental insurance afford care. Coverage is administered by Sun Life and is based on adjusted family net income (currently capped at under $90,000 to qualify), age, and tax filing status. As of 2026, the program is fully open to all eligible Canadians. We are a participating CDCP provider, accept direct billing, and handle the pre-authorization process for major services such as crowns and dentures.

Important things to know: CDCP pays a percentage of CDCP fee guide rates (100%, 60%, or 40% depending on income tier), some procedures require pre-authorization, frequency limits apply (e.g. one recall exam every 12 months for adults), and certain cosmetic services such as whitening are not covered.

🏛️

Federal Public Service Coverage

Ottawa is the seat of the federal government, and many of our patients are federal public servants, parliamentary staff, or RCMP / Canadian Forces members. We submit electronic claims directly to the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) administered by Canada Life and to Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) coverage. We also accept the Public Service Dental Care Plan and Pensioners' Dental Services Plan (PDSP).

👨‍👩‍👧

Provincial Programs for Children & Low-Income Adults

Healthy Smiles Ontario provides free dental care for eligible children and youth aged 17 and under from low- to moderate-income families. Ontario Works (OW) and the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) provide emergency and basic dental coverage for adult recipients. We accept all of these programs and bill them directly.

❄️

Ottawa Climate & Your Teeth

Ottawa winters are cold — among the coldest of any G7 capital — and that has real implications for oral health. Frigid air on exposed dentin causes sensitivity in patients with gum recession, microscopic cracks in old amalgam fillings expand and contract with temperature swings, and cold-and-flu season brings a spike in dehydration and dry mouth (which accelerates tooth decay). We see a clear seasonal pattern: more cracked teeth in January and February, more sports injuries from outdoor hockey and pickup games, and more sensitivity complaints during deep cold snaps.

💧

Ottawa Water & Fluoride

The City of Ottawa's municipal water supply is fluoridated at the level recommended by Health Canada — currently 0.7 mg/L — which provides meaningful cavity protection at the population level. Patients on private wells in rural areas around Ottawa (Manotick, Greely, Cumberland, Carlsbad Springs, parts of Kanata) do not get this benefit and may need additional fluoride support, particularly for children.

🌐

Bilingual Services & Newcomers

Ottawa is officially bilingual, and our practice accommodates patients in both English and French. We also welcome newcomers to Canada — we explain the Canadian dental system, insurance options, and how to access provincial and federal coverage in clear, patient terms.

"Lost a front tooth in a cycling accident on the canal path. Got a single implant here over about four months. Looks identical to the tooth on the other side. The 3D scan and treatment-plan walkthrough made me feel completely informed every step of the way."

"They explained the CDCP perfectly."

"I'm a senior on the new federal dental plan and was confused about what was covered. The front desk walked me through everything, did the pre-authorization for my partial denture, and there were no surprise bills. Kind, patient, and professional from start to finish."

"Invisalign that actually finished on time."

"Did Invisalign here over 11 months. Every appointment was on time, the digital simulation matched my final result almost exactly, and the retainer process was seamless. Highly recommend for anyone considering clear aligners in Ottawa."

"Bilingual service made all the difference."

"Comme francophone, c'était important pour moi de pouvoir tout discuter en français. L'équipe a été parfaite — chaleureuse, professionnelle, et toutes les explications étaient claires. Je recommande sans hésitation."

"Saved a tooth I thought I'd lose."

"Another office told me a back tooth had to come out. Got a second opinion here — turned out a root canal and a crown could save it. Two years later, no issues. Conservative, honest, skilled. Couldn't be happier."

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions Ottawa patients ask us most.

If your question isn't covered here, give us a call or send a message — we answer in person during business hours and respond to voicemails the same day.

A standard adult recall exam, two units of scaling, polishing, and bitewing X-rays typically costs between $200 and $325 in Ottawa, depending on the amount of cleaning needed. The exact fee follows the current Ontario Dental Association Suggested Fee Guide. Patients with insurance or CDCP coverage usually pay a small co-pay or nothing out of pocket. Ask for a written estimate before treatment.

Yes. We are a participating CDCP provider and accept direct billing through Sun Life. We handle pre-authorizations for major services and coordinate CDCP benefits with any partial private insurance you may have. To qualify for CDCP, you must be a Canadian resident, file your taxes, have an adjusted family net income under $90,000, and not have access to other dental insurance. Visit canada.ca for full eligibility details.

Most adults benefit from a checkup and cleaning every six months. Patients with a history of gum disease, high cavity risk, or specific medical conditions (such as diabetes or recent radiation therapy) may need 3–4 month intervals. Patients with excellent home care and low risk may be safe at 9–12 month intervals. We tailor the schedule to your individual case.

Yes. Modern digital dental X-rays expose you to a very small amount of radiation — significantly less than traditional film and far less than a single transatlantic flight. We use lead aprons and thyroid collars, take only the X-rays needed for diagnosis, and follow ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles for every patient, including pregnant patients and children.

Absolutely — anxious patients are a significant portion of our practice. We offer narrated, slow-paced appointments, topical numbing gel before any injection, noise-cancelling headphones, weighted blankets, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) sedation, and oral conscious sedation when appropriate. Many of our most loyal patients had avoided the dentist for years before becoming part of our practice.

A typical single-tooth implant in Ottawa takes 3–6 months from placement to final crown. The implant is placed surgically into the jawbone and needs 3–4 months to integrate (osseointegrate). Once integrated, an abutment and custom crown are fitted. Patients with sufficient bone and good healing often complete treatment closer to 3 months; cases requiring bone grafting may take 6–9 months.

Professional teeth whitening, performed in a dental office or with custom take-home trays prescribed by a dentist, is safe for the vast majority of adults. Results typically last 1–3 years depending on diet (coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco) and home care. We screen every whitening candidate first to make sure existing fillings, crowns, sensitivity issues, or undiagnosed decay won't compromise the result.

Call our office as early in the day as possible — we hold same-day emergency slots Monday through Friday. For knocked-out teeth, time is critical: gently rinse the tooth (do not scrub), place it back in the socket if possible, or store it in milk or saliva, and get to a dentist within 30–60 minutes for the best chance of saving it. After hours, call our emergency line and we'll either see you the next morning or direct you to a 24-hour Ottawa emergency dental service.

Yes. We offer Invisalign for both teen and adult cases, including limited treatments for minor crowding and comprehensive cases for more complex movements. Most cases finish in 6–18 months. Treatment includes a digital scan, a 3D simulation of your projected result, a series of custom aligner trays changed every 1–2 weeks, and post-treatment retainers to hold the result.

We recommend bringing children for their first visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth — this is the official Canadian Dental Association recommendation. Early visits are short, friendly, and focused on positive associations rather than treatment. Avoid using language like "shot," "hurt," or "painful" before appointments. Reading children's books about the dentist before the first visit helps a lot, and our team is specifically trained in pediatric communication.

Gingivitis — the earliest stage of gum disease — is fully reversible with a professional cleaning and improved home care (proper brushing, daily flossing, and an antiseptic rinse if recommended). Periodontitis — the more advanced stage where bone loss has occurred — is not fully reversible, but it can be stabilized with scaling and root planing, ongoing periodontal maintenance, and in some cases gum surgery. The earlier we catch it, the better.

Yes. We submit electronic claims directly to most major Canadian insurers, including Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Green Shield Canada, Desjardins, Industrial Alliance, Equitable Life, Blue Cross, SSQ, and the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP). In most cases, your insurer pays us directly within 1–3 business days, and you only pay any remaining co-pay at checkout.

No — and the reputation is largely outdated. Modern rotary endodontics, effective local anesthesia, and chairside dental microscopes have transformed root canal therapy. Most patients say it feels similar to a large filling. The real source of pain is usually the infected nerve before treatment; the procedure itself relieves that pain rather than causing it. Saving a natural tooth with a root canal and crown is almost always preferable to extraction and replacement.

Yes — we are currently welcoming new patients of all ages across Ottawa, Gatineau, and the surrounding region. New-patient appointments include a comprehensive exam, X-rays, oral cancer screening, and a treatment-planning consultation. Booking is available online, by phone, or by email.

Welcome back — and you're far from alone. The first appointment is about gathering information, not judging or rushing into treatment. We'll do a comprehensive exam, take needed X-rays, photograph any areas of concern, and sit down with you to walk through what we found. From there, we prioritize treatment based on urgency (active infection, acute decay) versus longer-term goals (cosmetic improvements, replacement of old work). Many of our most appreciative patients are people who hadn't seen a dentist in 5, 10, or 15+ years.
